FAI calls for reform to fertilizer sector

The Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) has again highlighted the chronic delays in subsidy payments made to Indian fertilizer producers and importers. It is calling for action to address this, and to reform to the sector in general. FAI expects the unpaid subsidy bill to reach Rs 450bn ($6.75bn) re at the end of the 2015-16 fiscal year. The 2015-16 budget allocated Rs 720bn for fertilizer subsidy. FAI states this was exhausted by August (only five months after the budget was passed in May) for urea, and for phosphates and potash there will be no money for subsidy accrued to months after September/October.
