The project is the largest undertaken in the history of the airport, with Watpac awarded a $42 million contract to grow the facility from 16,000sq.m to 27,000sq.m. Under the contract, Watpac will expand the terminal and create room for additional departure lounge areas, improved baggage systems and security screening areas. The contractor will also expand the check-in area and upgrade facilities for international travellers. Darwin International Airport (DIA) CEO Ian Kew said he was excited to be embarking on such a major development.
