The output of the super-giant Majnoon oil field is currently running at 210,000 barrels/day, Royal Dutch Shell disclosed in early April. The threshold at which the cost recovery mechanism was triggered was 175,000 b/d. The Majnoon field is being developed under the terms of a service contract signed with a consortium composed of Shell (45%), Petronas (30%) and state-owned Missan Oil Company (25%). Another of Iraq’s state-owned enterprises, South Oil Company, is involved in the work going on at Majnoon, since it has seconded around 300 of its staff to work alongside Shell on this project, which is of considerable importance for Iraq.
