Minnesota Power to close, upgrade more coal plants

Minnesota Power will close more coal-fired power plants than previously announced and upgrade facilities as part of a settlement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over alleged Clean Air Act violations. The company will retire, refuel, repower or reroute emissions from units 1 and 2 of its Clay Boswell generating station by 31 December 2018 under the proposed settlement announced today. It will also spend more than $500mn implementing measures to meet limits on NO_x, SO_2 and particulate matter emissions.
