Atlantic basin markets brace for slowdown

Atlantic basin steam coal export markets were steady this week but faced the potential for lower volumes in the second half of the year as delivered prices in Europe remained limp. Eastern US railroad CSX said coal exports moving along its system are likely to slow in the second half of 2012, as Central Appalachian shippers struggle to sell coal into Europe with prompt API 2 prices around 90 dollars/metric tonne.
