Duke tests Northern App, Illinois basin coals

Duke Energy Carolinas is conducting test burns of cokl from the Illinois basin and Northern Appalachia as the company seeks to diversify its sourcing away from Central Appalachia. In recent testimony to the South Carolina Public Utilities Commission, Duke Energy Carolinas said it still seeks to obtain up to 30pc of its coal supply from Central Appalachia over 2012 and 2013, echoing statements it made last March.
