There is hardly a more widespread and important task in clinical chemistry than isolating plasma from whole-blood samples.A lab-on-a-chip device developed by Vincent Pizziconi and Timothy Crowley of Arizona State University performs this duty with transverse-flow microfilters that need only capillary action to move the fluid.
