U.S. trade officials are hopeful that the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity, now that it has officially begun its work, will find solutions to the worldwide steel supply glut caused by government support in China and elsewhere.The forum, created by Group of 20 (G20) world economic powers, held its first meeting Dec. 14 in Berlin. U.S. Commerce Department officials are urging the panel to take aim at non-market influences that have encouraged steelmaking overcapacity to balloon.
