a substantial sexual dimorphism exists in the vascular reactivity of the rat aorta and mesenteric vasculature to the systemic vasoconstrictor hormone vasopressin (VP) (23, 73-75). Previous studies have established that contractile responses of the female rat aorta to VP are three- to fourfold greater than those of the male aorta and that constrictor prostanoids potentiate responses of the female aorta to VP (23, 51).
