In our previous study, two salt- and drought-tolerant genotypes and two sensitive genotypes were selected according to the growth parameters measured. The aim of present study was to determine the activity of antioxidative stress enzymes in some salt-and drought-sensitive and salt- and drought-tolerant melon cultivars grown in in vitro culture under salt and drought stress conditions. Besides to determine out whether in vitro callus culture can be used as a screening method under salt and drought stresses in a melon screening study. In this study, the magnitude of cell wall damage (lipid peroxidation) was lower in the tolerant genotypes than in the sensitive ones. The amount of lipid peroxidation was higher in the salt-stressed seedlings than in those that were drought-stressed. In this study, antioxidant enzyme (superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and glutathione reductase) activities were investigated in the callus tissues of four melon genotypes under salt and drought stress.The antioxidant enzyme activities showed differences among melon genotypes.
