Kiwifruit Pollination: the Interaction Pollination Systems and Flowering Stage

Nowadays, kiwifruit vine artificial pollination is a consolidate technique to increase kiwifruit quality and size. However, pollination efficiency could change depending on the season, the pollen harvesting system, and the pollination system. One of the interested factors could be the optimal floral stage in relation to different type of pollination. Many parameters were analyzed separately and comprehensive analysis in different environment in Italy for many years, such as pollen quality, pollination system and flowering stage. High quality pollen is the foundation for good results. In our research, the germinability, germination energy, and humidity were evaluated under different conditions of pollen harvesting. Meanwhile, the conservation methodand exposition time under different temperatures, the manipulation before and during pollination in different pollination systems (dry and liquid) were also discussed. About pollination, we evaluated the pollination efficiency by using different pollination machineries and systems, such as dry pollination with pure pollen or diluted, liquid pollination in water suspension, and both by handing application or with mechanized tools. The interaction of the pollination systems and the flowering stage were also evaluated, which is aim to understand the best flowering stage in relation to the pollination system (dry and liquid). During the pollination period, the flowers were labeled according to their flowering stage and the fruits size were measured in late maturing stage. The result demonstrated that the petals fall and full bloom-early petal fall stage is best for dry pollination and liquid pollination respectively.
