摘要

Corrosion of reinforcing steel is recognized as one of the major causes to the deterioration of reinforced concrete structures, which is primarily induced by chlorides from deicing salts, seawater or constituents of the concrete. Two promising techniques addressing this issue are electrochemical chloride extraction (ECE) and electrochemical injection of corrosion inhibitor (EICI), both through an externally-applied electric field. A comprehensive review of existing literature is conducted, which covers laboratory studies related to ECE and EICI, and computational models to predict the kinetics of ECE and EICI. This work aims to provide an in-depth understanding of ECE and EICI, thereby serving as a useful guidance in dealing with practical problems of interest.
