Ohio Valley Coal, a subsidiary of Murray Energy, has hired 56 new employees during the past month for its Powhatan No. 6 underground mine in Belmont County, Ohio, and apparently plans to hire even more workers, a union spokesman said Wednesday. “They had 27 interviews for new hires in the last week or two,” said Phil Smith, spokesman for the United Mine Workers of America. Powhatan 6 is Murray Energy’s only union operation.
