Prospects for the Indian fertiliser industry remain bright - in the long term. The industry plays an important role in raising agricultural productivity, enhancing food security and increasing rural livelihoods. But the challenges the industry faces in the near term worries the industry, hinders investments and puts a heavy burden on the exchequer thanks to soaring imports. Much of the travails stem from policy decisions - rather the lack of it.
