More than 1,500 institutions offer various pharmacy programmes in India with a combined annual intake of more than 100,000 students. The projected human resource requirement in India in the pharma sector is expected to reach 21,50,000 by 2020. "The availability of vast pool of technically skilled manpower and well-established research units have made Indian pharma as global pharma destination for R&D activities. With successful implementation of post graduate programmes in hospital setting and research institutions, the ecosystem is encouraging the private sector to engage in R&D and develop innovative products," said Mr. Rajeev Kher, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
