The ever-rising fuel costs are driving the worldwide trend towards fuel-efficient automobiles; and the automotive industry has been banking on the plastics sector to make lightweight parts that ultimately enable lower fuel consumption. Today, the average plastics penetration in a passenger vehicle in India is around 70-kg, which translates to 450-kt of total plastics consumption in the sector.
