The Kerala Chief Minister has written a protest letter to the Prime Minister over huge and frequent hikes in non-urea fertiliser prices. He said that companies have raised prices multiple times, causing grave hardship to farmers. The Kerala CM cited the example of MOP, which price has been raised 11 times, from Rs. 4,635 per tonne as on April 1, 2010 to Rs. 16,800 per tonne as on June 6, 2012, representing anincrease of Rs. 12,165 per tonne, a hike of a whopping 262%.
