Fertiliser industry's import dependency set to soar

The Indian fertiliser industry has been unable to keep up with growing demand by raising output for some time now, for well known reasons. The most important is the inability of the fertiliser pricing policy to stimulate investments in green- or brown-field projects, and the second is the serious shortage of natural gas - the most important fuel and feedstock for manufacturing urea, the single most important fertiliser.
