Potential Role of Biotechnology in Reducing India's Fertiliser Subsidy Burden

For a vast country like India, with rising requirement of food and fertilisers, it is imperative that greater attention is given to reducing the requirement of nitrogenous fertilisers produced from hydrocarbon resources, which are becoming costlier and scarcer by the day. Tapping naturally occurring wastes and using known species of nitrogen fixing bacteria has to be maximised.
