Russia's first deputy energy minister, Alexei Teksler, says that China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC; Beijing) is interested in acquiring a stake in soon-to-be privatized Rosneft (Moscow), Russia's largest producer of oil. CNPC deputy chairman and first v.p. Wang Zhongcai, in comments reported on the Interfax and RIA news agencies, has confirmed that CNPC is carrying out due diligence on the deal and has established a working group for talks on the privatization with the Russian government.
