Sadara commissions first of 26 plants at $20-billion complex

Sadara Chemical, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical, says that it has started up a linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant at Jubail Industrial City II, in Saudi Arabia. The plant began operations on 7 December, It is designed to produce 375,000 m.t./year of LLDPE using Dow's solution-process technology and is the first of 26 world-scale manufacturing facilities to come online within the $20-billion Sadara complex—the world's largest chemical complex built in a single phase. The unit is the first solution-process polyethylene plant in the Mideast. The financial impact of the plant's start-up and the related product sales will appear in fourth-quarter financial statements.
