Courts in Tianjin, China, have jailed 49 people for their role in actions by Tianjin Ruihai International Logistics (Ruihai Logistics) that led to a series of massive explosions in the city's port on 12 August 2015, killing 173 people. The blasts occurred when hazardous chemicals ignited in a warehouse owned by Ruihai Logistics. An earlier investigation by the State Council, China's chief administrative authority, concluded the hazardous chemicals had been improperly or illegally stored at the warehouse. Most of the 49 people who will be imprisoned are employees of Ruihai Logistics or government officials found guilty of dereliction of duty and abuse of power.
