Air Products to build Texas hydrogen facility, signs helium supply deal

Air Products says it is spending $350-400 million to build a steam methane reformer (SMR) to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide at Baytown, TX. The facility will be connected to Air Products' local pipeline networks for hydrogen and carbon monoxide. It will produce about 125 million cubic feet/day of hydrogen and a "world-scale" supply of carbon monoxide, Air Products says. Product capacities at the facility, which will come onstream in 2 018, are already sold out. The SMR is being built as part of a hydrogen partnership between Air Products and Technip, the project management and engineering firm. The partnership has constructed over 35 hydrogen production plants in n countries producing over 2 billion cu feet/day of hydrogen.
