Europe's butadiene capacity and crude C4s supply mismatched

Europe's butadiene extraction capacity will next year be 15% greater than in 2012, whereas the region's supply of crude C4s will have declined by 9%. Despite the mismatch, butadiene producers will be able to secure all the feedstock they need, according to the 20 October edition of IHS Chemical's Market Advisory Service: Global C4 & Elastomers Focus. Global butadiene demand is expected to total about 11.5 million m.t. in 2015, with about 1.8 million m.t consumed in West Europe, according to IHS data. Demand is dominated by the production of synthetic rubber, with polybutadiene rubber, and emulsion-styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), and solution- SBR accounting for more than half. Other major products include acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, styrene butadiene latex, and adiponitrile.
