Evonik forms China JV for fumed silica and silicon tetrachloride

Evonik Industries and Jiangsu Zhong-neng Polysilicon Technology Development, a wholly owned subsidiary of GCL-Poly Energy Holdings (Hong Kong), have signed a letter of intent to establish a joint venture to produce fumed silica and ultrapure silicon tetrachloride in China. Evonik will hold a 60% share in the jv. The plants, which will have a combined capacity of more than 20,000 m.t./year, will be built at Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, and are scheduled to start production in 2016.
