The Chinese government says that a major state-owned rare earth production company has been created at Ganzhou, in Jiangxi Province in southeastern China, for the sustainable development of the country's rare earths industry. Ganzhou Rare Earth Group was formed through the merger of Ganzhou Rare Earth Mineral Industry Co. and several other local rare earth companies, including Longnan Wanbao Rare Earth Co., the government says. The government announced in March 2012 that the country would establish two to three large rare earth enterprises by consolidating companies in the sector. The overall industry consolidation will cover companies in more than 10 Chinese provinces.
