BASF Puts the Bulk of Its Fertilizers Business on the Block

BASF plans to sell most of its fertilizer activities as part of plans to shift its portfolio into less cyclical businesses. The fertilizer operations include nitrogen fertilizer production plants at Antwerp and BASF's 50% share in the PEC-Rhin (Ottmarsheim, France) joint venture. The Antwerp site supplies product exclusively to K+S (Kassel, Germany), which has ruled out making a bid for the BASF assets. Yara International is interested in bidding, however, reports say.
