Sabic Develops Novel Extrusion Coatings LDPE Technology

Sabic Europe has developed a breakthrough process to produce extrusion coatings-grade low-density polyethylene (LDPE), using tubular reactor technology, CW has learned. The company is trialing the process and is ready to go commercial at its Geleen, the Netherlands complex. It will make the technology available for licensing. The development follows acceptance of the grade by Tetra Pak (Stockholm), a leading producer of carton packaging for food application and one of the major users of extrusion coatings-grade LDPE. Extrusion coatings-grade LDPE combines several characteristics required by packaging Arms including gloss, strength, and print quality.
