Ciba Plans More Job Cuts;Reports Loss Due to Textile Sale

Ciba Specialty Chemicals will cut 2,500 jobs,17% of its total,over the next 3-4 years,in a prolongation of the company's restructuring.Most of the job losses will be in Europe,including 350 in Switzerland,and in the Americas,Ciba says.The company is scheduled this year to complete a major workforce-reduction program that was announced in 2004.Ciba made the latest announcement after reporting a bigger-than-expected net loss in the second quarter,due to losses on the company's recent divestment of its textile effects business to Huntsman.
