Invasive fungal infections in the immunocompromised host: recent advances in diagnosis, treatment and prevention

Undoubtedly, one of the most innovative fields in infectious diseases is that concerning invasive mycosis caused by filamentous fungi. The key word here could be 'change'-change in the patients who suffer from these infections, in the causal fungi, in our approach to the condition, in the drugs we use to treat these infections, and in the need to prevent them.This issue reviews different aspects of mycosis, particularly those infections caused by fungi of the genus Aspergillus and the Mucoraceae family, which are currently the most important agents to be treated and prevented in patients suffering from severe immunodepression.
