Odor Intensity and Odor Threshold Value

The odor substances that are considered to be major sources of offensive odors were examined on the relationship between their concentration and the odor intensity. For the experiments, an odor free room was used. A panel of six members evaluated the odor intensity and acceptability. The number of substances used for the experiment is 54. The detection thresholds of odor substances analyzed in field investigations were measured by the triangle odor bag method. The number of substances used for the experiment is 223. The experiment was carried out from 1976 to 1988. As the results of the experiments, the odor thresholds were distributed over the concentration of large range depending on the odor substances. Those results are reported in this paper.
