Vegetative experiments have shown that the application of 0.25 of nitrogen normal of carbon-ammonium salts (CAS) stimulated nodule formation by 5 to 7 days comparing with the variant of ammonium saltpeter. It has been found that in comparison with the similar variant with NH_4NO_3, the use of 0.25 or 0.5 concentrations of the normal, essentially increased the quantity and the mass of lucerne root nodules as well as 1.6 to 4 times raised nitrogen fixing activity during vegetation up to the stage of flowering initiation. The use of 0.25 nitrogen normal of CAS resulted in 10 to 19.5 % reliable addition of lucerne green mass yield.
