Standard hazelnut crop cultivation in Sochi.

Various hazelnut cultivation techniques were compared in the Krasnodar region of Russia in 1995-2001. The techniques tested were bush, `hearth` (pit with 1m radius), Spanish (pit with 0.5 m radius), tree and Tatura (two trees in a pit in a V-shape). Drawings illustrating the planting techniques used are given. Data on yield obtained using each cultivation technique are tabulated. The best results were obtained using Tatura (1.37 t/ha) and tree (1.1 t/ha) cultivation techniques. The best productivity was obtained using 4-8 stems planted in an area of 5x6 m for bush cultivation, one stem in an area of 2x6 m for the tree system and 3x6 m and 2 stems for the Tatura system.
