On sharp bend of the 'species-abundance' curve for nektonic communities m waters off the Kuril Islands

Au unusual curve relating the total number of all individuals with that of found species (species-abundance) in a sample series is described. A distinct sharp bend is observed in the central part of the curve, presented on logarithmic scale of coordinates. The rate of rising is twice greater at the left segment of this curve than at the right segment. The given phenomenon is explained on the basis of the piece-wise property of the species frequency curve.
