NASDA has developed the GPS range safety for H-IIA rocket, a new space launch vehicle of JAPAN, which is scheduled to be launch in August 2001. The US Department of Defense is also planning to complete of the transition to the GPS based metric tracking system from the existing radar system by 2004. The benefits to use GPS for the range safety are as follows. (1) The GPS system is higher accurate than radars. (2) The flexibility of a flight path is increase and the destruct lines could be set widely. (3) Life cycle cost of GPS range safety is lower than radars. The system analysis, requirement specification, implementation and flight data analysis for the H-IIA GPS range safety will be presented in this paper.
