摘要

This report consists of three parts. The first part describes the demands among power-users for lightweight information visualization environment. Merits of adopting the Java3D API with personal computers are clarified from comparison with ordinary visualization systems. The second part explains the three-dimensional stereoscopic visualization system developed by the author, which enables us to view the Java3D real-time rendering stereoscopic images for each eyes with glass-type display. The merits of the proposed system over the ordinary systems are also discussed. The last part explores the utilization ofjava3D in the visualization of three-dimensional phenomena. A few of visualization examples from three-dimensional boundary element analysis is presented. Through the practical visualization results, the significance of the Java3D portability, performance, cost of ownership, interactivity, network transparency, is emphasized from a point of view of end-users.
