Recently, wireless sensor networks, which are composed of advanced MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) called sensor nodes, have been broadly researched as ad-hoc networks, Since sensor nodes are powered by limited-life batteries and are usually deployed in difficult environments, they need to be able to conserve their power consumption as well as guarantee broad coverage and connectivity. On most occasions, a variable but full coverage is required. In this paper, we focus on the coverage controllability and propose a simple self-controlling method for sensor nodes that is based on a probing mechanism, Only local information about the nodes' operation status is necessary to ensure the desired coverage of the entire wireless sensor networks.
