We report a technique for relighting objects or scenes based on images captured in a natural environment such that the relit object exhibits no specular reflection, allowing the appearance of the relit object to be changed according to different lighting. An original captured image contains shadows and specular components which hinder high quality texture acquisition. Our method separates the diffuse and specular reflection components represented by a reflectance field and then relights the object using a user-designed light map, based on the separated diffuse reflectance field. We have conducted experiments on real object surfaces to verify our approach.
