Welding characteristics of 19 kHz ultrasonic seam welding equipments using a complex vibration welding tip and a conventional linear vibration welding tips vibrating in elliptical and linear loci were studied. The complex vibration disk welding tip part was driven by a longitudinal vibration system through a longitudinal-torsional vibration converter. The complex vibration disk welding tip vibrates in elliptical locus. Using a complex vibration welding tip and an automatic specimen shifting equipment, thick plate specimens can be welded continuously with a uniform and large area. Required vibration amplitude of a complex vibration welding equipment is 3 μm, compared with 10 mm of a linear vibration equipment. Further more, input power of complex vibration equipment is 40 to 70 W compared with 100 to 250 W of linear equipment, and also fluctuation of weld strength obtained by complex vibration is smaller than that of linear vibration. The complex vibration welding system can weld continuously multiple parts of metal plate specimens such as heat sink and radiator with a large number of fins.
