Tax receipts or environmental protection? -- From classical income to eco tax systems

Optimization of energy input is subject to scientific and metallurgical limits. Early measures to save energy and increase power efficiency must continuously decrease the scope for optimization. This is why eco tax will not give the impulse in the right direction desired by environmental politicians, at least where steel makers are concerned. This subject is extremely important for steel industry in Germany. Steel making is energy intensive. Due to continuous scientific and metallurgical optimization, the influence that can be exerted on energy input is limited. Therefore, every tax on commercial energy input hits steel industry hard.
