Development of luminaires that make pleasant dining atmosphere

The results of our research on residential lighting plan showed that many users wanted a kind of lighting that makes food look more delicious or that makes a dining atmosphere more pleasant. Sufficient light is required to bring out the color and gloss of the food and to produce three-dimensional effect of the food to make it look more delicious. To provide a pleasant atmosphere, the luminance should be moderately controllable and focused on the dining table. Various types of lamps have been combined to test how a variety of things placed on the dining table such as Western and Japanese dishes, beer, wine, plates and glasses look under such lamps as well as the atmosphere created by them. The result of such study showed that the combination of "Twin Pa look" fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps produced the most desirable effect for the dining area. This paper explains how the newly developed "Produce Twin Pa" lamps help make food look more delicious and the atmosphere more pleasant from the test results.
