摘要

This paper reports a method of measuring machining center (MC) motions along various tool paths This method consists of an instrument that measures MC motion and software that calculates the MC path using data sampled by the instrument. The measuring instrument is a parallel mechanism that is set between the spindle and table of the MC to be measured. The position of the MC spindle relative to the MC table is calculated using derived geometrical relationships. We show that the relative positions can be represented as the lengths of the three slider links of the measuring instrument. Based on these relationships, we also propose a procedure to determine the setting angles between the instrument and the MC spindle and table. This measuring system has been used to measure circular, square and oblique rectangular paths of MC motion. Experimental results show that the measuring system can be applied to paths that are difficult to measure using the double ball bar method.
