MALAPLANINA CARBONATE GROUP AND CHERNIVIT TERRIGENOUS GROUP - NEW JURASSIC LITHOSTRATIGRAPHIC UNITS FOR THE HETTANGIAN-BATHONIAN (LOWER - MIDDLE JURASSIC) SEDIMENTS IN BULGARIA

Just to the present day in the Bulgarian Lower and Middle Jurassic sediments exist three lithostratigraphic groups - Luda Kamchia, Treklyano and East-Thracian Groups, based on different types of sediments, united by their regional location, not connected to one another. The majority of the Lower and Middle Jurassic rocks had not been united into lithostratigraphic groups. Here we propose two new lithostratigraphic groups based on lithological similarities - the Malaplanina Carbonate and the Chernivit Terrigenous Groups. All sediments of the Treklyano and East-Thracian Groups are redistributed into new groups, as well as the Kotel Formation of the Luda Kamchia Group, which is attributed to the Chernivit Group.
