Development of Dy free NdFeB anisotropic bonded magnets and their applications

NdFeB anisotropic bonded magnet (MAGFINE) is widely used for motors for household appliances and contributes to the miniaturization and high performance of the motor. MAGFINE has five times higher magnetic forces than standard ferrite magnets, and it near-net-shape characteristic enables easy application to motors. Until now MAGFINE has been used for size/weight reduced seat motors and reached a production volume of 10 million pieces. To further expand the applications from body type to bigger unit type motors the concern has been to secure magnet heat resistance without any price increase. So far, the addition of Dy to NdFeB-based magnets has been needed in order to secure heat resistance, and MAGFINE has not been an exception to that.
