Influence of impurities on the content of [O_2] in water under microwave irradiation

A decrease of free O_2 content in distilled water and water salt solutions under microwave irradiation was observed. The reduced O_2 level persisted for a long time (up to several hours) after the elimination of the field. The degree of the field influence on the O_2 content was determined by the presence of ions in water. The effect was lacking when bidistillate or deionized water were used in the experiments. The effect became evident after the addition of CaCl_2 (at concentrations below 1 #mu#M) to deionized water. The greatest decrease in [O_2] (up to 5 %) was observed in the physiological solution for vertebrates. The effects of a lesser degree were also observed in the solutions of CaCl_2, MgCl_2, NaCl, and other salts prepared on deionized water. The data obtained showed that, for the manifestation (or arising) of the nonthermal effect of the field, which shows up in a partially irreversible decrease of O_2 content, the presence of some alkaline metal ions and, possibly, some other nonidentified impurities is necessary.
