Complex comparative estimation of technicalparameters and economical characteristics of gas and electricfurnaces using for remelting of secondary aluminum scrap inaverage amounts is executed. It is shown that gas shaft-bathfurnace with efficient construction provides substantial decreaseof specific power consumption comparing with inductioncrucible furnace. In this case, in spite of some increase ofexpenses connected with rise of fume content in a gas furnace,decrease of power consumption leading to cost lowering hasdominating effect on the cost of ingots. Groundlessness of thewidespread opinions about efficiency of flame furnaces only forlarge production volumes (tens and hundreds of thousand tonsper year) is shown on the base of implemented technical andeconomical estimations. These estimations and accumulatedpractical experience display efficiency of application of a gasshaft-bath furnace for ingot production in average amounts.Characteristics of newly developed gas shaft-bath furnacesdesigned for small and average production volumes (2-8thousand tons per year) and combined increased efficiency ratiowith lowered power consumption are presented. Developedfurnaces excel as reverberatory furnaces of conventional design,as electric furnaces in their technical and economical parameters.The leading sample of a gas shaft-bath furnace with 5-6thousand tons per year annual production has been successfullymastered at one of the Russian enterprises. Operativedevelopment, manufacture and delivery of this furnace in a unitwith casting machine are available in short time. Expected pay-back period of capital expenses doesn't exceed 6 months.
