Overview of the UK Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Activities and Capabilities

The UK fuel cell and hydrogen industry has grown significantly over recent years. This article provides an update on recent developments in this clean energy industry, and gives examples of notable installations, UK energy consumption patterns coupled with ambitious CO2 emission reduction targets create an opportunity for fuel cells and hydrogen, particularly in the areas of low carbon transport, residential heat and stationary power. The UK fuel cell and hydrogen industry is responding with roll-out of commercially available products and final stage trialling and demonstration, gaining further public acceptance for these clean energy technologies. The Government's planned changes to the way the electricity market operates and the strong low carbon agenda create new opportunities and it is expected that next few years will be a particularly interesting time for deployment of fuel cells and hydrogen systems in the UK.
