Polyester film laminated steel for can containerwill gradually replace lacquer coated steel sheet fromenvironmental consideration and cost reduction. The process ischaracterized by partial melting of the film on the steel surfaceduring lamination by pressing the supplied films between bothsides of heated steel and a couple of cooled rubber rolls.At present, most of polyester films used for the can containersare biaxially oriented films and various characteristics of filmlaminated steel for can use are strongly influenced by the degreeof biaxial orientation of the laminated film.Therefore, this report deals with the result of an experimentregarding variations of the degree of biaxial orientation withseveral polyester films, and thermal analysis of these polyesterfilms by means of Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC).Finally, from these experiments, we found that it is possible toestimate the variation of the degree of biaxial orientation duringlamination by means of thermal analysis.
