COMPLIANCE QUESTION LINKED TO MAJOR CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE OUTCOMES

Background: Non-compliance with drug therapy is a major contributor to failure to control hypertension hi the general community. Effective strategies have beenjieveloped to identify and ameliorate this problem. Such strategies are usually assessed by surrogate measures such as pill count, pharmacy records or blood pressure recordings, rather than hard endpoints such as major adverse cardiovascular events. We used a previously validated four item questionnaire to assess responses to these questions and their correlation with cardiovascular events or death in subjects in a hypertension trial in the elderly.
