Green tea is consumed worldwide as a popular beverage. The catechin derivatives, commonly called polyphenols, present in green tea possess anti- carcinogenic, antioxidant, suppression of serum cholesterol and prevention skin damage properties. Recently there have been a number of studies of skin benefit of green tea.To evaluate the effect of a test soap containing green tea extracts on face skin condition such as dark spots and wrinkle, a double blind placebo-controlled study was conducted on 36 female subjects (27 to 57 years of age). The subjects were divided into two groups and washed their own face with a test soap or a placebo soap for consecutive 4 weeks respectively. The skin condition of each subject was measured at 0 (baseline) and 4 weeks with VISIA, Mexameter, Corneometer, Tewameter and surface area of corneocyte.
